Definition of "Skilling" in this context: Skills which involve non-combat activities (Eg. Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, Smithing, Crafting, Runecrafting). Herblaw is excluded as it involves PvM to procure ingredients and agility.
Ever since the appointment of Mod Aaron and Mod Rhys as well as re-appointment of Mod Root, I have observed that event activities organized by them has increased a lot compared to the past. They truly care for this server and worked real hard to organize events after events to the community, with re-introducing "forgotten events" like hide and seek and scavenger hunt, which is awesome! If I were to take a step further in my comments, I would say that they are miracle workers. Kudos to all of them!
However, ever since the appointment, I've noticed the events organized thus far is as follows:
- PK-based activities, which requires you to go to wilderness to kill a target for a specific prize then escape with it, or most kills within a period of time, or gauntlet, etc.; basically anything that involves wilderness and PK.
- Staking game (usually involving level 3 or flats boxing, sometimes flats with weapon on)
- Ranging event (Spawning of high tier NPC for people to range and loot)
- Survival event (Mostly LV3 survival against high-levelled NPC that can insta-kill)
- Racing event (usually level 3 racing from one place to another, first to reach and trade mod wins)
- Drop Party (only if there's donations for that one)
- Hide and seek (First player to find and trade the mod wins the prize, hints given throughout the duration of event)
- Scavenger (Collect items stated by mod then trade for prize)
But one is missing from the list, which is the "skilling" event I've defined.
Why do I say skilling = unloved stepchild?
First of all, the PVM update of updating loot table has affected skilling severely. High-leveled NPCs now drop skilling resources in great amount that makes skilling redundant because the rate of gathering resources via skilling can never match that of PVM. Wanna get coal? Why mine coal? Go kill fire giants for them, 30 at a time! 60 if 1x or at wildy! 60 coals is equal to slightly more than 2 trips of actually mining them. I could go on with other examples of other NPCS with their drop table but I guess the point is made. >>This thread is not about asking for any form of PVM nerf.<<
Just stating why skilling is not looking good anymore and the game, instead of a more balanced approach, has tilted very heavily on PVM to the extent skilling is quite redundant compared to the likes of PVM.
Plus, I don't mean any disrespect at the slightest (<<emphasis on this statement), but our active mods at the moment aren't exactly ones with the "skilling" background to be honest. Therefore, if due to this there be lack of "skilling" events, it is not a surprise.
Ok enough of that. Time for proposed solutions to tackle the issue:"
1. Occasional "skilling" events organized by mods. Our existing mods can try to look into organizing "skilling" events occasionally in conjunction with the events that they're doing now. Resources and facilities spawned at certain location with bankers and bed. This will definitely breath some life to skilling. The then DM arena used to be a very good place for that though adjustments can be made.
2. Skilling Island or something. Maybe a sub required to access the area with facilities and resources, OR paying a certain amount of coins to access them (some coin sink), could also be opened freely in event periods.
3. Adding more resources to existing locations. This will spread skillers around and allow them more room to skill.
These are the general ideas but I can think of way more than these basic 3 ideas if there is a demand for it.
Economy implications?
I don't think this will highly affect the economy. Resources are in constant demand and currently the top source for resources would be PvM, and even with these proposals, skilling will still never beat the existing PVM in gathering rates at the moment, BUT it will slightly balances out and breath a bit more life to skilling (Don't let the "PVM plant" get all the sunlight to the extent "skilling plant" wither and die out 🙁). Plus, it might spread players around and not make everything tilted one-sided to PVM only.
I guess that's it for now, if anyone (especially the higher-ups) actually read and took note of this, I'd appreciate it so much.
TL;DR: More skilling events, resource area, etc. Love your skillin' child(He's ugly but he's still your son! 🙁) yeah I put this below on purpose. 😋
Disclaimer: This thread is purely feedback-based and should only be viewed as such instead as a toxic attempt to fire barbs at this game because I care and love this game a lot, and I didn't start this game yesterday then give insta-feedback without having anything constructive.

Well written and I agree with some points.
From what I see new players want an easy ride. They ask for those handouts, they aren’t turning to skilling to make their money like a few if us did back in the day.
I try to buy all skilling items out of the ah. Paying those who have worked for it and then makes them want to go do it again.
As regards economy, there needs to be a new cash sink, something that people can buy and spend their wealth on.
The new npc and area can’t come soon enough.
Need to implement lotto events which anyone can start without mod interactions.
I would also remove the stat changer for a bit and add a new subscription for it if necessary .
Hopefully that will make players train for staking levels again and will see 61s flourish.

I know we've already talked outside of the forums about this. But just for reference to other members who may stroll upon this post:
A new skilling event area has been constructed and will be utilized from time to time. It won't be like how it was before; however, it will become a part of our regular events again. I do apologize on the lack of skilling events, but due to permission restrictions and what not, they have not been doable. We lost all of our old skilling locations when we switched the landscape back to the classic landscape and just needed to build another.
There are more ideas and fun surprises on the way and I promise that we have not forgotten about our skillers or any other part of our community. There are plenty of new things around the corner. Thank you for your post and always feel free to reach out with any ideas or feedback/criticism. As long as it is constructive, it will always be welcomed!

Skilling is the best part out there; social, sweaty and rewarding in the end. And not to make it grindscape like back in the days there should be events or areas to help with this. But new skill island sounds good, I'm looking forward for the new changes to come!
